Recreation

Staff at Halswell College offer a wide range of recreational activities for the students to experience.

The programme is geared to make boys more familiar and more confident with indoor and outdoor activities enabling them to make an informed choice. There is a strong emphasis on developing a good sense of sportsmanship.

The College is equipped with a gymnasium which is used on a regular basis. The College's sports fields are used for soccer, rugby, rugby league, softball and cricket. Where boys are having difficulty in playing a sport, the rules and equipment can be modified, as in Kiwi sport, to allow the boys to be able to participate and enjoy their sport.

The College runs its own Athletics and Swimming Sports Days. Cups and trophies are awarded for winners and triers.

Indoor activities include:

Board games, bingo, pool, baking, listening to and making music, watching TV, playing games, writing letters and playing on the Villa computer or playstation. The boys are instructed in a range of Art & Craft activities which may include drawing, painting, pottery, ceramics, and working with plaster.

The College encourages involvement in outside Clubs. Many boys play for Halswell League Club, Suburbs Rugby Club or are members of Tae Kwon Do, Soccer, and Scouts etc. Several boys have achieved representative age group trials selection in League and Rugby.
