Welcome to Halswell Residential College
The purpose of Halswell Residential College is to provide special education within a residential setting for students who need significant curriculum adaptation due to an underlying intellectual impairment and whose educational, social and emotional needs, including behaviour, cannot be met in their current environment.
Students will be in year levels 7-10 on enrolment. Enrolment at the College provides the opportunity for students to develop the skills, knowledge and attitudes that will assist them to return to their community in the most effective manner, living as independent a life as possible in a safe and nurturing environment.
A student is initially enrolled at the college for 12 months. In certain circumstance this may be extended for up to one further year. Please click on the 'Enrolments Information' for more information.

Application To Learning And Behaviour Support
20/01/2012
Our enrolment process has recently changed. Referrals are now made to our LABS service and these go to a joint Committee for Salisbury School and Halswell College which approves allocation of services. Click here for more detail.
When an application is approved, the student is allocated a Liaison Teacher, Learning Support Worker, and Family Support Worker. When these positions have been confirmed, the first point of contact you will receive will be from the Liaison Teacher for your district.
Following on from this, Learning & Behaviour Support team members will arrange to visit your student in his home district, to assess whether he is able to be supported by them in his home/school/community, or rather, be recommended by them for residential education at Halswell Residential College in Christchurch at a later date.
Please Note: In the first
instance, students are no longer accepted for residential education at Halswell
Residential College. However, this may occur after intervention from our
Learning & Behaviour Support Team, if recommended by them.
