Turning of the Sod

On 15 April 2016 (the last day of Term 1) the official turning of the sod ceremony was held. This ceremony involves a Karakia that brings together the Mauri (life-source) into one place. The Mauri is then placed into a carved wooden box and cared for until it is returned to the ground once the building project is complete.

Unfortunately the Minister of Education, Hon. Hekia Parata was unable to attend however we were grateful that the Associate Minister, Hon. Nikki Kaye could participate in the ceremony.  She was supported by Tutehounuku (Nuk) Korako (National Party MP). We thank them for their attendance and supporting our rebuild.

You can read the Ministry of Education's media release on the 'Turning of the sod' ceremony here.
