Support Services

Psychologist

The Halswell College Board employs a Psychologist available to follow up individual cases and provide counselling, therapy and crisis intervention when necessary.

Speech Therapist

Speech Therapy is provided by a Speech Language Therapist employed by the Board.

Occupational Therapist

The Board employs a part-time Occupational Therapist.

Family Support Programme

This programme is offered to parents who either request support or are suggested as appropriate participants. This programme is generally held on site with parents' travel expenses met by the College. In some cases specialist staff may travel to the parents to deliver the programme.

Dentist

All students are enrolled for treatment at our local Dental Centre. Orthodontic treatment is the responsibility of parents. While the College is happy to take students to orthodontic appointments, payments must be arranged between the orthodontist and the parent.

Doctor

We have a Service Contract with a local Medical Centre. Students are either taken to the Centre or the Doctor visits students on site to deal with all significant student health needs. The College has a highly experienced Registered Nurse on staff. Significant medical charges ie $15+ will be invoiced to you. Doctor's charges for routine medical issues are less than $15.

Other Specialist Services

A full range of services are available in Christchurch and the College will from time to time, call on professionals such as Psychiatrist, Audiologist, Paediatrician, and Educational Psychologist.

If your child is eligible for a High Use Health Card or Community Services Card, the College requires a photocopy of these to place in the child's medical records.
